What we checked
We checked 417 cleaners found through Google listings across Preston, Brunswick, Coburg, Reservoir, Northcote, Thornbury, Fawkner, Pascoe Vale, Heidelberg and Bundoora.
339 had a website linked from their listing. Of those, 295 loaded as working pages in our checks. We also looked for phone links, forms and a contact action on the first mobile screen.
The sample was assembled before checking the websites, so businesses were not selected because their site looked good or bad. These findings describe what we recorded on 16 October 2026.
The route from Google
78 businesses had no website linked from the listing we checked. That does not prove they had no website elsewhere; it means the listing did not provide that route.
Another 41 had a linked site with a customer-reachable loading problem. Screening retained failures such as domain errors, security-certificate problems, parked domains, timeouts and missing or unavailable pages.
Together, that is 119 of 417 businesses, or 28.5%, with no working website reachable from the listing at the time of the check. We excluded 3 results that our browser could not assess reliably.
If your domain or website has changed, the link on your listing is easy to overlook. It is a quick check you can do without touching the design.
No working website reachable from the Google listing checked.
The first screen on a phone
Among the 295 sites that loaded as working pages, 56 (19%) showed no visible contact action on the first mobile screen.
Contact details may still have been available further down the page or through a menu. This check records what was visible before scrolling. It does not establish that a customer could not enquire, or that the business lost work.
Phone links and forms
On 65 of the 295 working websites (22%), our check detected no phone link or clear phone action. A number written on a page and a link that opens the dialler are different things.
We detected no visible contact form on 169 of those sites (57%). That figure comes from passive detection. A business may prefer phone calls, use another enquiry route, or have a form the check did not detect.
We did not send test enquiries. These figures do not tell us whether a form delivers messages or whether someone answers the phone.
A check for your own site
- Find the website link on your Google listing.
- Open it on your phone.
- Check that it loads your current website.
If you use a contact form, send yourself a test message and check where it arrives. This is something you can try on your own site; it was not part of our passive audit.
Method and limits
The sample covers businesses returned through Google listings in the ten named suburbs, deduplicated within this trade. It is not a census of every cleaner business in Melbourne, and it does not assess Google rankings or listing completeness.
The headline combines 78 listings without a website link and 41 screened loading failures. We left out 3 not-assessable results that involved access blocks or browser-only failures. Mobile-contact, phone-link and form figures use only the 295 working websites as their denominator.
Checks were passive and automated. We opened public website links and recorded visible signals. We did not call businesses, submit forms or measure enquiry numbers. Loading problems can be temporary, and websites and listings change.
Each trade keeps its own sample. A business may appear in more than one trade search, so the trade totals cannot be added together as a unique-business count. We publish aggregate findings, without individual business names, URLs or research screenshots.
